Cape Town is the second most populous city in
South Africa and certainly a top destination world-wide for tourism nowadays. Being the provincial capital of the Western Cape (and the legislative capital of South Africa) it houses many government offices. The city, however, is widely known for its amazing harbour as well as the beautiful landscape which includes Cape Point and the ever popular Table Mountain.
For any tourists wanting to get a hands on look at the literary and arts world of South Africa we heartily recommend attending to the now famous Franschhoek Literary Festival. The festival takes its name from the Franschhoek valley where it is held. It lasts and entire weekend and world-renowned writers and authors from South Africa and all over the world attend. For those that have been hard at work trying to
learn English in USA, the festival is a great way to discover a literature that is refreshing while surrounded by the beautiful Franschhoek valley. It might be an experience quite different to the busy citylife that the ones that went to
learn English New York, but people that decided to
learn English in Australia or are coming from the great Outback find the landscape quite familiar (sans the kangaroos!)
Sadly, the festival is quite
short in length, lasting usually no longer than three days (which is still remarkable for an event of its kind.) The things to do are far from being over, however, as Cape Town is an excellent place to take your vacations in. Being the second largest city on South Africa it is no mystery that it has an excellent blend of different activities, from a quiet city tour that reveals the past of the city to taking a turbo fast ride on a fighter jet, swimming in the beautiful warm waters or even taking a cable car to the top of Table Mountain. The mountain literally fills the skyline with an impressive size and the famous flat top surface. Casting a shadow on most of Cape Town it is one of the most (if not the most) popular attractions for tourists.
Swimming and sea activities are definitely a crowd magnet in Cape Town, and when it comes to the finest beachest or the perfect waves the people agree on False Bay. False Bay is really a picture perfect location with warm waters and a lovely tidal pool that stretches between Muizenberg and Kalk Bay. For those with more of an adventurer spirit there are places with chillier waters and even a nudist beach at Sandy Bar. Swimming is not the only thing to do at sea, with plenty of sailing and scuba diving going on. The most popular activity must be
surfing, however. Muizenberg is a magnet for most beginners but the Atlantic Ocean side of Cape Town is the place where all the professionals are. If you ever get the chance to visit, make sure you enjoy the sun, the waters and all the adventure in Cape Town.
