World Cup seeded teams announced
The 8 seeded teams for the world cup have been announced by Fifa;
- South Africa
- Brazil
- Spain
- Netherlands
- Italy
- Germany
- Argentina
- England
England gained the 8th and final seed due to their impressive qualifying campaign and results in previous world cups, whilst teams such as Portugal and France missed out on a seeded spot in next years tournament.
All of the 8 seeded teams will be held in one pot with the other 4 pots being divided up into their respective continents. One team is drawn from each pot and then added with a seeded team to make a group.
Geographical criteria will also be respected, meaning that no two teams from the same confederation will be drawn in the same group (except European teams, where a maximum of two will be in a group).
For example, South Africa cannot play the African teams from pot three and Argentina and Brazil cannot be drawn against the three remaining South American teams.
