Signal Hill is a flat hill that is nestled next to Lions Head and
Table Mountain and also offers amazing views over Cape Town. The name, Signal Hill, lies behind the old use of flag signalling (semaphore) to tell ships of incoming bad weather and also where to drop anchor in the waterfront area. Luckily there is a road that leads straight to the summit of the Hill in order for you to take in the views.
Signal Hill is also home to the noon gun, which is fired everyday at 12 midday (except Sundays and public holidays). Originally (back in the 1800's) they were used to signal the arrival of a ship in to the harbour. Now they are used as a time keeping device, these are one of the Capes oldest traditions and have been actively used everyday for the last 200 years.
